SaaS - Online Software

Software as a Service (SaaS) has been available for some time but has recently gained prominence with the advance of Cloud Computing and virtual technologies.

The SaaS model provides access to online software on demand and lets you use the software just for the period you need it. Rather than purchase, install and maintain an expensive package outright, you can have access on demand, and pay only for what you use. You may have a new project and want access to Microsoft Visio just to draw up your plans. No capital expenditure, no maintenance overheads, and the flexibility to choose the software you want, when you want it, as the needs of your business change.

SaaS software can either be installed on your Online Desktop PC, or ‘streamed’ to the PC in your office. With streamed software the application is installed on the host server and can be accessed via a web interface, but the look and feel is exactly as if installed locally.

A large number of applications are available using the low cost SaaS model. Including Sage Accounting, Quick Books, MS Project, Microsoft Dynamics, Sage ACT.
